What is open source?

A kind community of people that write code and give it away freely to others to modify, examples of opensource software would be Joomla, Virtuemart, Wordpress and many many others.

What is the Opensource meetup up about?

Whether you use Joomla, wordpress or any other open source software, we all know it's good and healthy to share. The Friends are offering a free opensource workshop, with the goal of building a lively opensource community in Harrow.

What are your goals? We are in the process of creating a community minded online app to help park groups around Harrow in a number of different ways.

I am not a techie? 

We are looking for various skills from coders, testers to help supporting parks use the system, so if you want to get involved we have coffee waiting for you. 

This will benefit everyone.

  • Young people can learn to earn
  • Middle aged people can use their skills
  • Older people would be suprised easy behind the websites that make up the internet really is. 
  • Business can learn to run their websites on opensource?

Join us for our first meetup up and an informal chat, and you could find solutions to problems or queries regarding your website.

Meeting co-ordinator:  The bloke from the Wealds

Wifi: Included (hopefully installed by then)

Cost: Free

Knowledge Level: Basic to advanced

  • Initially limited to 10 spaces.
  • Subjects covered and discussion: 
  • Any open source
  • Server configurations
  • Website security
  • How to create a plug
  • What is the best open source and why? (big smile!)
  • This is aimed as people from 14 onwards and have an interesting all things Internet and opensource.
  • Initially this will be monthly.

Community events - Get involved.

We encourage you to register and add your Harrow community events.

Many community groups ask us to add events or send us their information, we are happy to add events however as volunteers our time is limited.

Why add your events to this event system?

The events system is integrated with several social media platforms, google business, and provides event feeds to other locations online, so your event will get seen.

We offer a single source of information to Harrovians to find local harrow community and park events

Once you have added your event you can and send it to your own Facebook page or other social media platforms and it will be included in our feeds.

If you have any problems registering, please contact us and we will set you up and email you instructions to add events.
